Our Environmental Policy
As more and more companies look into ways of reducing their carbon footprint, reducing waste and using more environmentally friendly products. Here at Wilson Creative we are no different. We have made a huge attempt particulary within our media duplication production side of our business to reduce the amount of virgin plastics and unsustainable paper we use in our CD and DVD packaging. We actively promote the use of recycled plastics and sustainable recycled paper and card to our clients who are seeking packaging to go along with there CD or DVD duplication.
Through a period of consultation with a number of our clients. We asked them how they felt about receiving more environmentally friendly products such as recycled CD jewel cases and recycled DVD cases. Recycled CD jewel cases contain up to 50% less plastic and are produced from recycled polystyrene while recycled DVD cases are made from a mixture of virgin and recycled plastic (to read more about the plastics used please read on below).
It was refreshing to see that the majority of clients questioned said they would be in favour of receiving the more environmentally friendly products. Whilst the majority of people asked did not find a lot of difference in quality between the recycled cases and those made from virgin plastics. Some did point out however that they felt there was a slight lesser quality of feel between the cases. With the virgin plastic case having a more sturdy feel to them.
After more discussion it was decided that although we could not make use of these recycled materials within 100% of our packaging solutions. We have introduced the more environmentally friendly products, which use recycled plastics, throughout our standard packaging range. Our standard CD jewel cases and standard DVD cases are ideal for companies and individuals seeking to promote themselves as more ecologically responsible whilst still preserving the look of quality.
Our premium range of packaging therefore still offers clients the choice of choosing premium grade polystyrene jewel cases and 100% virgin Polypropylene DVD cases.

Plastic jewel cases made from solid polystyrene
Standard CD Jewel cases are made from solid polystyrene. Virgin plastic is used to make all the premium grade polystyrene jewel cases on the market. Jewel cases can also be made from polycarbonate which is very tough and durable but more expensive. To recycle jewel cases they have to be sent to an appropriate recycling facility that can handle the specific tasks involved. The manufacture of virgin plastics can create a lot of carbon and there is increasing arguement over the ultimate environmental impact of using products of this kind.
Solid polystyrene is traditionally non – biodegradable but safe to bury in landfill, being as stable as concrete or brick. Additives can be used to promote its bio-degradation but some of the side effects of the process can be toxic, although research continues and there are promising signs
Solid polystyrene is generally seen as one of the major sources of marine debris, worldwide
Plastic cases made from polypropylene
Polypropylene is a stronger more flexible plastic than polystyrene and is used to produce a vast range of CD and DVD cases such as circular clam shell cases, standard DVD video cases and many others designed for mailing purposes.
Polypropylene cases can be manufactured from 100% virgin material or a mixture of virgin and recycled material. Polypropylene is traditionally non – biodegradable but safe to bury in landfill, being as stable as concrete or brick. Additives can be used to promote its bio-degradation but some of the side effects of the process can be toxic, although research continues and there are promising signs.
